Introduction

Manufacturing the products is very costly as well as a complex process for businesses that are not having the right tools, resources, and equipment to develop their quality products. In the current time, machine learning has become more popular in producing and assembling items, helping in cost reduction and time reduction of the production of a particular product. As a matter of fact, around 40% of the potential value that can be created using analytics today comes from machine learning techniques.

It has been noticed that from the last 5-6 years exceptional technologies can help build rapid and robust models that drive a lot of functional improvements.

Benefits that ML provides

Here are some ways through which machine learning is positively impacting the production process and providing benefits to it:

Improving the process:

There are three aspects of business namely operation, production, and post-production. Most of the manufacturers are successful in adding machine learning into these three aspects of their businesses. For example – Fanuc is a Japanese manufacturer of robotics and automation technology that included the machine learning process. It uses deep reinforcement learning that is a machine learning solution. Also, it enables and helps the robots to learn new skills very quickly and effectively. It doesn’t need precise and complex programming anymore.

Product Development:

Data has proved to be a very important entity as it brought nig opportunities for all the manufacturing companies in their product development process. It helps their businesses to understand customers and their needs and successfully meet their demands. This way, it helped in the overall development of a new and better product for the customer base. This data is valuable as the manufacturers are now able to create a product with an increasing customer value and it reduces the risks that are connected with the introduction of some new products to the potential market. Several actionable insights are taken as they help in strengthening the company’s decision-making process while planning, strategizing, and then modeling the final product.

Robot:

Robots are machines that can bring a lot of change in manufacturing. They are very helpful in performing all the daily routine tasks that are complex or too dangerous for humans to perform. Manufacturers these days put more money into robotizing so that they can meet their demands and reduce human errors. These machines end to contribute a lot to the best quality product manufacturing. Every year, the products come to the baseline in order to enhance the product lines.

Security:

Machine learning has developed such platforms that have made mobility a lot more secure in a company. The machine learning algorithms make their processes secure and also empower business innovation along with ensuring the smooth development of devices, mobile apps, etc, and data is protected across the organization. It gives on-device security and repairs device and network threats on any device.

Quality Control:

Machine learning plays a vital role and acts as a pillar in enhancing the overall quality of every manufacturing process. Its deep-learning neural networks help in the performance, weakness, availability, and quality of assembly equipment of the machine. For example – Siemens is using a neural network so that they can monitor their steel manufacturing and improve their overall efficiency. These kinds of companies invest a lot in machine learning to improve the quality of their operations.

Supply Chain Management:

Machine learning technology lends a helping hand to companies. It helps them so that they can maximize their value by improving their inventory management, supply chain management, logistics process, and asset management. It is better if machine learning, IoT, and artificial intelligence integrate. They will then ensure the high-level quality of products. The manufacturers today are finding new ways to combine all these emerging technologies with supply chain visibility, inventory optimization, accuracy, and asset tracking. The machine learning development companies and organizations have developed a supply chain management (SCM) suite. It can monitor each and every step of manufacturing, delivering, and packaging.

Summarizing the whole scenario

It is very obvious now at this point that the manufacturing industry is a technically advancing sector. The advantages of the adoption are increased productivity, reduced equipment failures, better distribution, and the introduction of enhanced products. Looking at all these benefits of machine learning in manufacturing, manufacturers around the world have already started investing a large sum of amounts in machine learning solutions. They did it for better efficiency and to empower their processes. The widespread adoption of these solutions will take place slowly. It’s taking place and in a few years, we will definitely see numerous companies leading the way to a smarter way of manufacturing the products we generally use in our life.

Robots and machine learning will transform the manufacturing industry. But, the manufacturing workforce needs to be reskilled to work alongside the newly developed work machines. The machines being used presently need maintenance which increases the downtime and isn’t cost-efficient. Sometimes the approach also seems wrong as the actual problem still hasn’t been solved which was leading to system failure. Getting accurate insights requires a long time. It is not a day’s task and takes years to address the real problem which leads to system failure. Machine learning can be a key as it can alert operators of time before. Also sometimes it can also avoid unplanned downtime of machines which would save a lot of time. The algorithm developed through machine learning will be a huge transformation in the manufacturing sector. It would benefit a lot the manufacturers.

Machine Learning has surely matured a lot over the years. It allows us to gain more insights from all kinds of data that we collect. Moreover, we can also implement machine learning to transform the work of a user experience designer, interaction designer, and product designer. In this article, we will introduce to you the five different types of strategies on how we can use machine learning to improve the overall user experience. Let’s get into it.

Offer Next-Level Personalization

Personalization is a hot trend in the year 2020. Machine learning greatly helps businesses to offer next-level personalization to their customers. It provides a more scalable and accurate way for achieving many unique and different experiences for single users. Rather than leaving everyone with just the rule-based personalization, it allows using the algorithms to deliver one-to-one experiences in the form of recommendations for content or product.

Below is a list of personalization examples that are driven by machine learning:

Offering applicable discounts through machine learning by creating a personalized reward system.

Personalized emails that recommend products according to the user’s interests based on their previous purchases and search history.

Suggestions of content for blogs that are based on user’s interest that reduces the bounce rate as well as improves the time they spend on a particular website.

Provide Higher Quality Recommendations

The key for a business to always win is to provide high-quality recommendations that increase their revenue. Even it is beneficial for users as they spend less time searching for products. A study shows that in the year 2018, almost 63% of shoppers preferred product recommendations. This is even higher for millennials. The rate was 69% for those who favored product recommendations and not manually searching for the products.

Collaborative filtering is a method that provides more personalized content recommendations. It offers content suggestions that are based on users with the same taste based on purchases and reviews. Let us take an example of a student and a businessman who have given the same scores to a few restaurants. They share similar tastes. Therefore with the help of machine learning, we can recommend the same restaurant to the student that the businessman has rated 9 or 10.

Improved Customer Service Quality and Speed

Companies and businesses can drastically improve the overall user experience by improving customer service speed. Studies showed that 46% of people expect a response in 5 seconds or less when they are using a chatbot, 43% of people expect the same while using online live chat, and 33% of people when they use a phone or a video call. Thus, it is now time to start using machine learning algorithms for faster chatbots. The top use case for the chatbots is answering time-sensitive questions.

Not responding quickly to emergency questions can leave the company behind with a negative user experience. Also, it’s sometimes impossible for someone to be available all the time to answer difficult problems. Thus, chatbots can quickly learn from previous user interactions. Machine learning algorithms can detect similarities and patterns that allow them to answer the same questions faster in the future. Moreover, they are more scalable than humans. Humans are involved only when the chatbots can’t answer some complex questions. Besides, humans can always feed data into chatbots to improve their question handling.

Optimize Layout by Analyzing User Behavior

We can easily optimize the layout of the software and applications by measuring user behavior. For example – we want to optimize the overall layout of an invoice application. The toughest task will be to develop an invoice creation button. We want to check how quickly users can find this specific button. To do this, we can measure the time that users take to press this button. By measuring time only, we can detect wrongly placed buttons and try to optimize the layout.

In short, we can use machine learning to reduce the time that users spend in finding a function and to efficiently do the A/B testing. Moreover, we can spot patterns also where the users often go back to the previous page. This shows that the flow is incorrect and the user expects something better.

In a nutshell, the main aim is to find interactions that are unclear or require a lot of time to complete, those who often affect the user experience negatively. Apart from that, we need to reduce human errors when we navigate the application to create a better product experience. But, don’t change the order of your UI components a lot.

Sentiment Analysis: Emotion AI

Lastly, the use of sentiment analysis can give a better picture of the user’s emotions when they interact with a website, advertisement, blog, or product. Measuring emotions also require a facial recognition system. But, you can also use textual analysis to check their feelings. However, this strategy is not possible for checking people’s reactions to certain advertisements.

By judging their response to an advertisement or content, we can create even more engaging advertisements. Often marketing teams create different advertisements according to the user’s wealth, age, and interests.

In short, we can use sentiment analysis to create:

Better content that answers every question

Advertisements that interests users

Products that meet users needs precisely

Conclusion

Machine learning is surely a very great tool to improve the user experience. But, before implementing them, we need to validate every machine learning insight. It is valuable to implement the user testing process for validating the changes. To conclude, both machine learning and user experience designs will keep growing and there is no stopping. There are a lot of benefits when we merge machine learning and user experience design.

In the process of developing a software product, software testing is very important. It makes sure and upholds the overall quality of the product. Several phases in the testing process are integration testing, acceptance testing, unit testing, system testing, and lastly the user acceptance testing which has a very significant role.

What is UAT?

User Acceptance Testing is the last stage in the process of software testing. This process plays a crucial role because it validates whether the business requirements have been fulfilled or not before releasing the developed product. Moreover, the UAT testing meaning can be defined also as the methodology of the user where the software developed is tested by the business users in order to validate whether the software is working as per the specifications that are defined or not. This is also known as beta testing or application testing or also commonly called end-user testing.

This process is taken up before releasing the new software product in the market. This step is done to make sure if the product is complete according to all the functional specifications or not that is defined by the owner. If the owner won’t take up this process, their business will suffer from many significant losses due to the post-release issues.

Why is it essential?

UAT is a significant step that must be taken by the client, stakeholder, business owner, product owner, or the intended user. This has to be done in order to have a good understanding of the product or the software developed. The business user firstly verifies and validates the developed system before sending it to the production environment. The various stakeholders in this process are the QA lead, Test manager, business analyst, product owner, and requirement specialist.

User Acceptance Testing makes sure if the developed software can be effectively used to support all the daily operations and works of the business as per the user. Primarily, the owner of the product verifies if his solution works without any defects. Then, he confirms whether it meets the required needs or not. If it identifies any bugs, then the QA team fixes them up and tests them again. Therefore, it is an important step for the development of software products as businesses tend to have significant losses if any post-production issue occurs.

Benefits

Until now, we have come across about what is user acceptance testing and why is it so essential for all businesses. In the coming sections, we will talk about the benefits that it gives and what are its types. The benefits of user acceptance testing for businesses are as follows:

It validates whether all the requirements are met or not as defined.

UTA reduces the risks of finding several defects post-production.

This helps in identifying all the bugs that were left during the integration testing.

It identifies the behavior of the application that is developed as visualized by the end-user or the product owner who has to use the software.

This testing ensures that the application works well and meets all the conditions and requirements.

Types

The types in User Acceptance Testing are as follows:

Alpha and Beta Testing:

Both alpha and beta testing approaches in UAT are done before releasing the final software for the customers. Alpha testing is the one that is practiced in the very early phase of development with the help of teams. Before finally releasing the software, the user groups conduct the testing in a development environment. Feedback received help the teams to fix bugs and improve the product quality.

On the other hand, beta testing is done in the customer environment that involves customers for testing. The feedback from it enhances the quality of the software.

Regulation Acceptance Testing:

It is also known as compliance acceptance testing. RAT is a method to validate whether a development application complies with all the rules and regulations that are set by the government. It is one of the most important testing practices. The software is tested for its compliance with the guidelines given by the prevailing authority.

Contract Acceptance Testing:

This is a type of UAT testing approach in which the developed software is tested against all the critical criteria and specifications which have been already defined while the contract is made.

Business Acceptance Testing:

This is a UAT testing type that helps the businesses validate if their software satisfies specifications or requirements that are set by the business or not.

Operational Acceptance Testing:

Operational Acceptance Testing is also known as Production Acceptance Testing. It helps in assuring whether there is a popular workflow for the developed software that is its stability, reliability, compatibility, etc.

Black Box Testing:

In this, the teams analyze a few functionalities of the application without actually knowing its internal code structure. It is categorized under functional testing and it uses the same principles that the end-user is unaware of the codebase. It ensures that the developed software meets the business requirements.

Conclusion

Every business is now in a need of high-quality software as well as faster releases to beat their competition. Software testing is very important for software product development. And, essentially the user acceptance testing should be taken up by the product or the business owner. Leverage the very next generation and independent software testing service providers those who really make sure that quality software is delivered with the most careful UAT test plans. Thus, it guides all the businesses through. With this testing approach, every business can be assured of their products that meet their every requirement. Then they are finally ready to be moved to the production process.

You might want to ask if whether your company is ready for the digital transformation or not. If you want your business to survive in today’s highly competitive environment and grow in the long-term then it must transform itself and adapt to the increasing expectations of the customers and all the technological changes that are happening in society.

The digital transformation encourages the companies and organizations to choose the technology that is right for them and find out what technologies no longer are useful for them and need to be replaced or updated. The management needs to increase their productivity rates and embrace all the technological advancements so that they can bring better results in the business operations.

It always seems very challenging when we start a new project. Besides, digital transformation is not some exception. It is the nature of the processes that tell us that remarkable changes are coming. When it is rightly done, it radically modifies the way an organization works and handles all kinds of challenges that come in the way. Digital transformation is not only about installing new software. It is basically the reorganization of how one does things and how people need to cooperate.

Bringing digital transformation is a bit analytical. Many types of research show that the companies doing it properly tend to win market share while the other companies get a negative ROI for all of their investments. For implementing and bringing digital transformation to your company, it will be a wise choice to rely on change management.

Change management will transform

The advancement of change management has always been related to technology-driven developments as well as transformation in large companies. Every day, new organizations are bringing digital change and in order to meet the new challenges, they need to improve the role of change management. Such kind of issues involves a deeper and broader human impact that is connected with digitization and also the implementation methods like user experience and design thinking. Digital transformation needs an algorithm. There is a common scheme of change management using the C-suite and get to all the levels of management. Such processes don’t have track records. Also, the changes that they bring are huge.

Put important things first

Earlier, all the focus was on the process of bringing the technology, and then it was on the influence that it had on the staff. A change management plan was made only after seeing the evaluation of impacts. However, nowadays it is a top priority to talk about future changes with the people before implementing any digital transformation. It is done to increase loyalty around the things that are about to happen and make people excited about the changes.

Build C-suite support

Getting good support is important for all the changes to be realized. The businesses that face difficulties in this new digital world can easily get the build support that they need to succeed. Most of the companies that feel the impact of this climate is ready for it. But on the other hand, the companies who don’t think about the effects can be more resistant to all the changes. To get the management on board, it is important if change managers understand the pain points and offer practical solutions. You can implement transformation slowly. There is no need for dramatic modification at all. This gives everyone the chance to adapt to change and consider it as something good rather than as a challenge.

Understand the technology

One of the most difficult things, when there is a digital implementation, is to explain to the employees how this transformation will change the way they work and ensuring them that they can continue to do their jobs. That’s when advisors are useful for the companies. They provide all the employees training programs so that they can understand the new processes in a better way.

Create a strategy

Planning is a significant step. Companies need to be vigorous with their strategies. There are always risks when you spend hours creating a plan. However, digital transformation needs flexibility. Thus, if there is a signal that the company needs change for future developments then you should reconsider all your plans. Otherwise, you will see yourself spending time on useless things.

Realize all the changes

If you do it correctly, digitalization will bring a lot of transparency working in a collaborative function. But, it doesn’t always come easily. That is why change management for this process includes creating a dialogue about the technology as well as all the modifications of the processes in various teams. You need to initiate real conversations about what kind of future is waiting. Give the staff the chance to express their worries. At last, it is up to the change managers that they can see those changes as an amazing environment for innovation.

Conclusion

The process of digital transformation is a very complex task for change managers and employees. You should implement this change slowly after the right strategic planning. You need to have clarity for the result. This way you can get every member of your staff to move in the same direction. And also there should always be a little place for flexibility.

Make several cultural changes and education the characteristics of this transformation a highlight of your overall plan. It is essential to guarantee that every member of the company is on board. The staff members need to be aware of all the changes that it brings. In this way they can consider digital transformation as a good thing. So it’s better for the companies if they don’t forget to explain the kind of improvements in the vision during the transformation process.

We all know about the crisis that the retail industry is going through. The traditional method of retail is not at all useful for the market now. The complexity is increasing in every industry, customer demands are changing and the requirements of high user satisfaction are growing day by day. This is why retail is now facing several challenges. These industries can use the robotic automation process to complement the unparalleled growth and all the complexities that come with it.

Robotic process automation can automate and improve the workflow of several repetitive tasks like customer management, bill generation, inventory management, loyalty scheme management, business reporting, and customer complaints management.

This blog will tell you about the importance, scope, use cases, and benefits of this automation in the retail industry.

Scope of Automation in the Retail sector

Every retail business that has both physical and virtual presence is riding on the very same boat. The cost of the physical store is more because of the involved expense of the real state. Thus the complexity of the retail industry is increasing. This means that whether they sell their products online or offline they will have to strike a chord in between retail elements. RPA allows organizations to automate repetitive activities, optimize overall costs, and accelerate workflows. This helps retailers stay effectively optimized and relevant.

How does RPA help?

Retail can be called the concluding step of a supply chain that consists of any additional costs that keep adding at each stage. Anything that can improve the costs of a product can also improve the profit margins of retailers. Robotic process automation supports a lot of activities in retail like inventory, returns processing, contract management, supply chain, invoice management, and store planning management. Moreover, RPA also supports many other office tasks such as payroll, safety, health, onboarding, staff selection, training, etc. The best part is that the finance department can also optimize its activities around regulatory compliance, payables, receivables, incentive claims, cash flow management, etc. Retail always becomes successful when there are details available. But now, it is high time that businesses should now automate these details and repetitive tasks.

Use cases in RPA

According to the current data, international online sales have increased to 8.8% of the total retail spending in the year 2018. And, it was about 7.4% in 2016. It is also estimated that online sales in the U.S will double by 2023. It will reach up to 20 to 25% of the overall retail space. The industry will surely face some challenges that will need the restructuring of the business processes from top to bottom.

When we compare all these growth numbers to a comparatively slow market, production costs, undependable supply, and increasing label cost, the retail owners can face some challenges in the coming year. Other than this the retail industry is also expected to address all the increasing needs for consumer-centric business execution.

The use cases that are given below are the most common tasks that we can automate within the retail space. But, there are many other tasks where the efforts and errors can be significantly reduced. We can do it through the human workforce with the implementation of valuable resources. The use cases are as follows:

Nowadays, people expect a lot from a particular website. Your websites not only need to look sharp and attractive but it should also load as fast as possible on a wide variety of devices. You can even overwhelm the most experienced web developers by juggling and handling the individual parts that are required to keep your website look and run smoothly. If someone is struggling with optimizing their website then Google Lighthouse is just the tool that they need to show them the way.

What is Google Lighthouse?

Lighthouse is an automated and open-source tool provided by Google to web developers. It improves the quality, correctness, and overall performance of their websites and applications. It conducts audits in a few major areas that are best practices, performance, accessibility, and Progressive Web Applications. Google Lighthouse works for improving a possible user experience and developer bottlenecks in these domains. Users can run it against any application or website whether it is public or requires authentication. They can use it as a Chrome extension, as a node module, or from within Chrome DevTools as well.

When you audit a webpage, Lighthouse runs some tests against that page. Then it accordingly generates the reports on how well the page performed. From those reports, you can check the failing tests. Then you can use them as indicators of what you can do to improve your webpage or application. Lighthouse provides a lot of tips to the developers to improve the page load performance, for instance, enabling text compression or reducing render-blocking scripts. The Lighthouse team continuously ships new audits for the users to give them useful advice for making their websites faster.

Why Google Lighthouse is important for your websites?

Now that you are aware of what Google Lighthouse is, you might question why it is so important and why the scores matter for your websites?

Well, the answer is simple. We all know that performance improvement is a priority for any website or web application. So, when you use Google Lighthouse it provides you a report with the areas mentioned where your website needs improvements. When you optimize the performance with the help of the report for mobile devices, the performance of your website on desktop and laptop browsers improves as well at the same time. Users nowadays are increasingly visiting websites on mobile devices. Thus, your website must offer a smooth and quick experience for your visitors.

Using Lighthouse will further improve the searchability of your web apps and websites. After all, what good a website is doing if nobody is visiting it? A better performing site is rewarded with higher search engine rankings. Ultimately, using Lighthouse gives your website an advantage over your different competitions which is why it is so important for developers. It makes a great difference.

Benefits of using Google Lighthouse

Lighthouse doesn’t claim to test each part of your website but it prescribes more of a top to bottom testing of specific components such as SEO and accessibility, as discussed above. It tries the website design angles that Google considers as significant steps. After you get the outcomes, it guides you to use the most proficient methods to improve your performance by fixing the issues. This ought to bring better rankings on the search engines. Here are a few benefits and reasons for why you should use Lighthouse in your site testing routine.

Actionable Items:

When an issue or bug is identified, Lighthouse gives you significant things so that you can improve the execution. The reports generated will point at explicit segments and also lines of code that need to be fixed or improved.

Continuous Updates:

It goes through several continuous updates. Its developers make sure that the most recent web metrics are being tried. Users don’t need to worry about utilizing obsolete rules as people who make the rules are the ones who are refreshing the program.

Convenience:

If you are new to this website architecture then SEO can be confusing for you. And, most of us don’t have the knowledge to run complex testing devices. In that case, the lighthouse is pretty easy to use. Users can examine their sites in just a single tick.

Anyone can use it:

Lighthouse is a versatile tool. It can be used without touching the build pipeline in the Chrome extension. Both developers and the non-technical audience can use it easily. Moreover, it enables Quality assurance teams and the product managers to easily and quickly access and monitors the performance of websites.

Performance Advice:

Building analytics software can be challenging. But fortunately, the lighthouse provides the metrics and actionable reports. They refer to certain DOM elements, infrastructure setup, and CSS collectors. Now, users don’t need to worry about navigating through unknown waters. Therefore, performance becomes approachable.

Built by best developers:

Lighthouse provides a significant advantage over other performance tooling projects. Its developers not only have a great amount of experience and expertise but they also have direct access to API creators that are important for performance tracking and benchmarking.

Summary

Performance is a very important part of a better user experience; still, people overlook it. Lighthouse is an amazingly useful suite that empowers developers to make the user experience of their products better. It not only provides metrics but also human-language advice which has made it an indispensable part of a lot of processes. No matter whether you are building a progressive web app or not, it is always compulsory to make a quality assurance checklist.

Suppose you built a new website for your company. And, you spent a lot of days designing the website and several other weeks for its production along with countless hours of edits. But, there occurs a problem. You come to know that your new and amazingly beautiful website isn’t as fast as it needs to be. Speed is a vital factor when it comes to developing a search engine optimized website and a conversion rate.

However, speeding up a website is not an easy task. It is most of the time very difficult to recognize what is slowing down your website. The problem can be anything ranging from wrong codes to large page elements or images. If you need to diagnose and fix your issues fast, then Google’s PageSpeed Insights is the right tool for you. By the end of this article, you’ll have a clear understanding of what is PageSpeed Insights and what is its importance.

What is PageSpeed Insights?

Google team has always been on the frontline of web performance tooling and optimization. There is a Google tool available that is suitable for your every need. Over the last ten years, they have created performance tools that are dedicated to various types of users ranging from developers and marketers to website owners and amateurs. PageSpeed Insights or PSI is a great tool by Google that reports the performance of a website or a page on both the device – mobile and desktop. Moreover, it provides suggestions to the user on how their page can be improved. This tool provides both the field and the lab data about a page.

Lab data debug performance issues as it collects in a controlled environment. But, it might not capture the real-world bottlenecks. Field data capture true and real-world user-experience. But, it has a limited set of metrics. PageSpeed Insights for good reasons is one of the most internationally used page speed measurement tools.

Why is it so important?

The speed of the page plays an important role in the ranking factor in Google’s algorithm. It also plays a vital role in user-experience. Pages that take a lot of time in loading increases the bounce rate and further reduce the average session duration. As a result, it greatly decreases interactions and conversions. This is the reason why it is so important to diagnose what is causing the pages on your website to slow down. It is also important to use effective methods and tools to optimize the speed of your page. After implementing these optimizations, the ranking will improve through a better user experience and thus your overall important conversion rate will improve.

PageSpeed Insights tool does an overall performance analysis on some special metrics of your page and gives the PageScore result accordingly. This means that the better the score is, the users can assume that the better shape their website is in. A satisfactory score is a good indicator of the well-being of a site in the eyes of Google. A website that has faster speed has higher chances that it will be loved by Google. It proves that PageSpeed Insights is important for any website as it focuses the people’s efforts that ensure their website loads as fast as it can.

Benefits of PageSpeed Insights

Google’s PageSpeed Insights wants every website to have a responsive design because it wants to give a better user-experience to everyone. It has a lot of benefits that it provides to developers to make their websites better than before. Let’s go over its benefits.

Your patience wears thin if you click on a website and it takes forever to load. You will leave that website immediately and you’ll click on another website that will load your answers fast. When someone clicks the back button before the website loads, it is a bounce. And, nobody would want that happen with their website. When the bounce rate increases, it becomes obvious that the visitors stay on it for a shorter time which makes it unlikely to convert. PageSpeed helps the websites with this thing by helping them load faster and improving performance. When fewer people will leave, their stay time will increase which means that they’ll engage, interact, and view more pages. These are the ranking signals by Google and it brings to our next benefit: increased rankings.

An increased page speed increases the number of pages that Google can index and crawl. And, the more the pages Google indexes, there are higher chances of your website having an individual page ranking. Longer load times apparently reduce the bandwidth which decreases the number of pages that Google will crawl.

It is easy to understand and use. People don’t need to be from a technical background, anyone can use it.

It is straight to the point and provides optimized assets such as CSS, JS, and images.

PageSpeed Insights gives the best reports that help the developers improve their website performance greatly. Further, it has a desktop and mobile assessment.

Wrapping things up

Everyone wants their websites to be perfect from every perspective. Every icon, image, and element needs to be top-level. But often people are left with slower websites even after using the best practices. Speed always plays a big part because nobody wants to wait 5 seconds for the site to load so they click back and select the next result. It should be the developer’s main priority to optimize a website perfectly. PageSpeed Insights is a tool that helps your websites overcome such difficulties. Thus, scoring a perfect 100% score on this tool can always give your website the boost that it needs to be successful.

Many SEO trends may come and go, but for a fair amount of time, it’s been proved that something as simple as an H1 tag is the key to improve any website’s SEO. People often ask – is this a myth or is it true that H1 tags help in the improvement of a website’s SEO greatly? Expanding the reach and visibility of a business through a proper website to achieve the growth objective is important. But, it is more important that your website has a good speed, performance as well as a very strong SEO base to reach the target audience as much as possible. In this article, we help you understand the importance of a proper H1 tag for improving the performance and analysis results in the Lighthouse and PageSpeed Insights test.

H1 tag and SEO

One of the most complex tasks that a search engine needs to do is to understand what a page is all about. To do this task in the most efficient and fastest way, it makes use of data from various signals. One such signal is the H1 tag on the page. When search engines go through the content of a page, they read the codes in HTML and determine which sentences are enclosed in which heading tags (h1, h2, etc.). It considers them as a characteristic of a particular page. So, people can easily make the search engines understand what their page is about by including keywords in their H1 tag.

Besides, there is one more reason why headings are an important part of SEO. It is because they make it easier for the users to navigate through the page. The H1 tag heading pretty much clears them that what the page is about just by a glance. Moreover, the rest of the subheadings further help them to understand what each section of the content consists of. In short, if a business or a website wants to be found on the internet, it needs to follow such simple SEO rules and must have good knowledge of SEO because these small things matter a lot.

H1 tag SEO best practices

You might not know this but, essentially, you are helping your website rank better in a search engine. You can do this just by having one H1 tag on your page and following its best practices. It is not the strongest thing for search engine optimization. However, it is still very significant for SEO as it tells both the search engines and the website visitors that what your page is all about. For instance, including an H1 tag on your website can help improve the user experience. Thus, it ultimately helps improve the ranking of your website in the search results.

Now that we have clearly understood how H1 works, let us see what we can do to write the best H1 headings that might benefit your page in SEO. Given below are some best practices that you should follow for it –

Use full forms instead of short forms

Use keywords

Avoid long headings

It should be similar or a bit different from the page heading

Make sure the H1 tag is visible to everyone

Use one H1 per page

It should match the user intent

Style it differently

Example

Now, let us help you understand better by taking an example of how it makes a huge difference for every website.

LightHouse Test Result for Mobile with expanded h1 tag

In the above two images, the result of the analysis from PageSpeed Insights and Lighthouse are given. It is for both desktop mode and mobile mode. The performance scores in desktop mode and mobile mode are 84 and 83 respectively. This score means that the page has an average performance with an average speed to load the website. This is the case when we took “Oracle Fusion SCM Cloud Tutorial” as the H1 tag for the page. This happened because we wrote SCM in our heading rather than writing its full form that is Supply Chain Management.

On the other hand, this is not the case when we write its full form in the heading i.e. Oracle Fusion Supply Chain Management Cloud Tutorial. We can see the difference in the above two images as the score increases to 97 and 96 respectively for both desktop and mobile.

This proves that search engines like Google places higher importance on the H1 tags of a website. This is to improve usability, especially mobile usability which helps in improving the overall speed and performance. Thus, tagging the heading of your page or content as an H1 tag in your website markup makes it easy to read by Google. This means it is mandatory for better SEO.

Test it. Trust it – https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fsmconsultant.com%2Foracle-fusion-scm-cloud-tutorial%2F&tab=mobile

Conclusion

Optimizing the headings and the H1 tags is one of the things you certainly need to do. But, it’s not the end of it. Unlike other factors of SEO, an H1 tag is a factor that you can easily control. And, if you use correct optimization, then it can make a difference in your website rankings. If your website already has headings that are not coded in the H1 tag, then it’s unlikely that the H1 tag will make any significant difference to your SEO strategy. But a good SEO is all about checking boxes right? So, why not check this box now that you know it goes beyond just SEO?
